Any public hospital in Egypt operating under the Ministry of Health can provide emergency and primary health care to all migrants, asylum seekers, refugees and other persons of concern to UNHCR regardless of their residence status. Patients will have to pay for the same nominal fee for the medical treatment as the nationals. Resettlement
Legal & Durable Solutions
In Egypt, resettlement services for refugees are mainly provided by UNHCR through resettlement programs run by different resettlement countries. Resettlement to a third country means that a person recognized as a refugee by UNHCR in Egypt gets legally resettled from Egypt to one of the resettlement countries because he/she has resettlement needs and fulfils the resettlement criteria. Resettlement will only be considered for individuals who have no prospects of return to the country of origin, or prospects to integrate in the country of asylum. Country of Origin Return
Legal & Durable Solutions
Considerable numbers of migrants and refugees in Egypt wish to return home but lack the means to do so. Returning back to the country of origin represents a durable solution for many foreigners who cannot find the financial means to survive and/or don’t have a regular residence permit in Egypt, hence risking arrest and deportation in compliance with the national legal framework regulating immigration. Refugees and migrants may opt to return back when the situation in their country of origin has improved and they no longer face protection risks. Community Centers, NGOs, churches and mosques sometimes hand out donations of clothing, essential items and food. Some organizations have scholarships and/or funds available to cover educational costs. Funds and scholarships are restricted in number and available only for applicants who fulfill the eligibility criteria. In Egypt, adult education starts from the age of 12 upwards, several non-governmental organizations, community based organizations and community centers provide wide ranging educational programs for adults from language training to life skills courses. Types of these educational courses vary from workshops to full-time programs. Each organization sets their own enrollment procedures while some welcome participants on walk-in basis. Public, private and community based organizations provide courses and training on this field of education. Each organization sets their eligibility criteria, which may vary from year to another. Services offered to migrants under the age of eighteen, or migrant children who have been separated from both parents and other relatives and are not being cared for by the adult who is responsible for doing so (legal guardian). They can be provided with general services that can include, but are not limited to, educational or financial assistance, legal, medical, and psychosocial services.
Psychosocial Assistance
Living Assistance
Psychosocial assistance aims to promote, protect and support the well-being of vulnerable migrants, with activities aimed at reducing psychosocial vulnerabilities, promoting community resilience and ownership and providing aid that takes into account psychosocial and cultural diversity issues. Psychosocial support can include mental health counseling, referrals, problem-solving assistance, spiritual support, group support, and many other similar services. These services are provided by organizations that include mental health professionals, social workers, counselors, specialized nurses, clergy, pastoral counselors and others.

Shelter
Living Assistance
Shelter services are offered to vulnerable migrants who need protection, and to migrant men, women and children in a situation of homelessness. Shelters can be open for all migrants and/or for a specific nationality or a certain category. As a matter of example, shelters can be offered exclusively for victims of trafficking (VoTs), survivors of sexual and gender based violence (SGBVs), children and un-accompanied minors (UMC). Shelters can also be gender-specific.

Services offered to migrants who are/have been subjected to verbal, physical, sexual and/or psychological harm or suffering that is based on their sex, gender identity, real or perceived sexual orientation or non-adherence to social norms around gender and sexuality. The protection of refugees has many aspects. This include ensuring; refugees will not be returned involuntarily to their countries, ensuring fair and efficient access to asylum procedures, ensuring that their basic human rights are respected, and allowing them to live in dignity and safety while helping them to find a more durable, long-term solution. Many organizations provide protection for those who are most vulnerable and minimize the threats which many refugees are subject to. Victims of Human Trafficking

Services offered to Victims of Trafficking (VoTs) are available to migrants who are/have been subjected to force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of commercial sex or labor, other forms of sexual exploitation, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs. They can be young children, teenagers, men, and women. The services can range from psychological and psychosocial support, to medical and legal aid, to community integration and access to education, shelter/housing, and job training programs.
Third Countries
Refugee Status Determination
Refugee resettlement to third countries and family reunification for refugees from Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iraq, and other countries. This includes the provision of medical screening, counselling and information, cultural orientation, documentation and logistical support. These activities are fully-funded by countries of resettlement.

Several non-governmental organizations, international organizations and community based organizations provide wide ranging educational activities from sports and arts activities to cooking courses. USRAP
Refugee Status Determination
IOM Egypt has a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau for Populations, Refugees, and Migration (BPRM) to facilitate resettlement process for eligible refugee cases in Egypt. IOM is the designated Resettlement Support Centre (RSC) for the US Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP). Resettlement Support Center (RSC) is providing this service to refugees from different nationalities (Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iraq, and others) after receiving their referrals from UNHCR.

Migrants in Egypt are entitled to use Public Health Services. In addition, you can also be seen in Private Hospitals. Some non-governmental and international organizations can provide both medical care services, referrals to public or private hospitals and medical clinics and financial help.

Some local and international organizations in Egypt offer legal counselling and assistance to refugees about their resettlement cases. These organizations help recognized refugees understanding their options and navigate through different procedures. Employment Services
Living Assistance
Finding a work, or a source of income, is an essential factor in order to have a sustainable life. The Egyptian government has signed bilateral agreements with certain countries and therefore some nationalities can access the Egyptian labour market without pre-entry conditions, or are granted immediate work permits. If interested in business start-ups, foreigners, including refugees, are allowed to establish or acquire Egyptian companies under certain legal framework. Family Tracing

Services facilitating the reunion of families by locating or helping locate family members whose current whereabouts are unknown. Such services include helping migrants trace family members that they have lost contact with due to armed conflicts or other situations of violence, natural or man-made disasters, or simply because of migration or other critical situations.
Housing Support

Housing-related support helps migrants who are struggling to set up or maintain a stable home environment, or migrants who do not have access to affordable or suitable houses.
Children & Youth
Educational Services
Several organizations, institutes and learning centers in Egypt offer a myriad of learning and education opportunities for children, adolescent and adults. Some migrant children and adolescents are also able to enroll in Egyptian public schools provided that they can show required documentation to prove their eligibility. In Cairo there are private and community based schools where migrant children and youth can access elementary education and in some cases even obtain diploma granting access to further education.
